Registration open for the HSA’s one-day seminar: Animal Welfare at Slaughter and Killing – Hot Topics 2023

8 June

Registration has now opened for the Humane Slaughter Association (HSA)’s one-day seminar: Animal Welfare at Slaughter and Killing – Hot Topics 2023. The seminar, which is aimed at the meat and livestock industry, will be held on Wednesday 18 October 2023 at The Arden Hotel & Leisure Club, Solihull, UK.

The programme includes a wide range of topics such as depopulation of poultry on sites infected with Avian Influenza, new documentation on the killing of chicks in hatcheries, the Abattoir Users Survey conducted by the Sustainable Food Trust and National Craft Butchers, and government support for small abattoirs.

Attendees can also expect updates on pre-slaughter stunning methods for sheep, chickens and cattle in keeping with requirements for the Halal market, legislation requiring CCTV in abattoirs in England and Wales, and other legislative issues surrounding animal welfare at slaughter. Further details can be found on the HSA website (www.hsa.org.uk/seminar2023), with the full agenda available shortly.
Charlie Mason, HSA’s Technical Director, said: “We are delighted to be hosting this seminar for all those associated with animal welfare at slaughter, including animal welfare officers, veterinary surgeons, meat inspectors, food business operators, slaughter personnel, lairage workers, enforcement officers and legislators.”

“Not only will attendees be able to listen to the latest updates from our speakers, but they will have an opportunity to network, share their views on the topics presented and to ask questions of the speakers.”
