Nominations are now open for the Humane Slaughter Association’s prestigious 2021 Humane Slaughter Award for significant advances in the humane treatment of farmed livestock during transport, marketing and slaughter.
Around the world millions of animals are transported, marketed and slaughtered every day to provide food and other resources for human benefit. The HSA works to improve standards of welfare for these animals and, since 2010, has honoured the achievements of an individual or organisation whose work has resulted in significant advances in the welfare of farmed livestock during transport, marketing or slaughter.
The award was established to recognise the important contributions and significant advances made in this field by individuals and organisations as well as to inspire others to work in this area of animal welfare.
Previous winners of the award have been recognised for making outstanding developments to improve the welfare of food animals during transportation, improving the welfare of farmed fish at slaughter and leading groundbreaking research into the welfare impacts of controlled atmosphere stunning (CAS). Winners include individuals and organisations from Sweden, the United Kingdom, Denmark, The Netherlands, Spain and New Zealand.
See www.hsa.org.uk/HumaneSlaughterAward or contact the HSA office for further details and to make a nomination. The closing date for applications is Friday 4th December 2020.
