An exciting year for the HSA

The year in review – Annual Report 2017-18 now published
HSA’s Annual Report has now been published and highlights what has been an exhilarating year for the charity.
Due to an exceptionally generous grant, the HSA has been able to commence two major pieces of work which have the potential to make a genuine difference to millions of animals across the globe – a programme of work to benefit the welfare of farm animals overseas and research to advance the welfare of finfish and aquatic invertebrates such as crabs, lobsters, cuttlefish and octopus.
In addition, the charity joined forces with Defra to offer research funding for a project to develop a more humane way to stun pigs during commercial slaughter which could replace high-concentration carbon dioxide (CO2) stunning.
HSA’s Chief Executive Dr Robert Hubrecht said: “None of the work undertaken this year would have been possible without the support and commitment of our supporters and donors. Their commitment to the welfare of animals farmed for food, not just today but in the future, is exemplary and we thank them for their generosity and for sharing our mission and vision.”
