HSA promote new publications at Veterinary and Public Health Association Autumn Conference
24 November 2015
The HSA recently attended the Autumn Conference of the VPHA, and ran a stand there to promote our newest publications - the Guidance Notes No.7 on Electrical Waterbath Stunning of Poultry and the Technical Information Poster ‘Effective neck-cutting of poultry’, both of which assist official veterinarians in protecting animal welfare at slaughter, as per the new EC Regulation 1099/2009.
HSA Technical Officer Jade Spence ran the stand at the conference, which was held in Leeds, and listened in to a number of presentations which were of particular interest to HSA’s work. Amongst these were a presentation which highlighted that fish don’t require veterinary supervision of slaughter despite Atlantic salmon currently being the UK’s biggest farmed food export and the advocacy of a ‘one welfare’ concerted approach to benefit farmers and farmed animals.
The event was well-attended with over 100 delegates from the veterinary and public health industries present. Charlie Mason, Technical Director for HSA said “It’s really important that we have a presence at this type of event and continue to actively engage with industry specialists to promote the HSA’s work and share the latest information and best practice guidance.”
