Student Scholarships Deadline
28 January 2014
The deadline for applications to the 2014 Dorothy Sidley Memorial Scholarship Scheme is fast approaching. The scholarships provide up to £2,000 to enable students or industry trainees anywhere in the world to carry out a project which is aimed at improving the welfare of food animals in markets, during transport or at slaughter. Over 50 awards have been granted since the scheme was established in 1986 as a memorial to the late Miss Dorothy Sidley, General Secretary to the HSA for 48 years.
Previous projects have included:
- “The effects of head restraint during stunning on the stress responses in slaughter cattle”
- “The effect of blindfolding horses on heart rate and behaviour during handling and loading onto transport vehicles”
- “The thermal microenvironment experienced by one-day old chicks during road transportation”
- “Can animals have a preference not to be killed?”
The closing date for 2014 applications is the 28th February 2014
